About this deal

With the help of Dream Wielder it is possible to get a handful of soul and heal a decent amount afterward. One of the things I liked the most was that this wasn't a solo adventure where the MC embarks on a journey, goes to magic school and make friends. No he already had friends, he's taking his 10 year old little sister along, his best friend (which he has romantic feelings for) and her three-headed dog that doesn't like him. The feelings are hinted at, and isn't a very big part of the first book but might be in the future. It's also hinted at that it's reciprocated, but the MC has just turned 18 and they grew up together. It's a very classical tale of "young love being too embarrassed to say anything that'd change the status quo".

Here’s a lesson for you, jester. As your little friend can feel, my trident isn’t the source of my power,” the bull-headed demon was all confidence. “It merely conducts: the power is all mine, and I can release it as I please, which is unfortunate for your friend here.”I was just considering that.” he glared up at Kaz-Mowang as he skewered another tiashiva like an overripe fruit. “What is your plan?” Fire magic and hellfire wove together, roiling with a life of its own; demons around their master burst into flame. Stone beneath his feet melted, bubbling like lava, his trident wilted like a flower hit by the first frost, metal dripping like candle wax.

On the negative side, I'm not a fan of extended enemy perspectives, and it seemed convenient that the all-powerful chancellor was absent for all of the battles. On the positive side, I think the dark hints about the motivations of the church, and perhaps the god, are exciting foreshadowing for the remainder of the series. This also implies that the enemy may, at least in part, also be a victim. That would be an interesting subversion of expectations. This wave starts with 1 Garpede crawling down in the centre. Before it reaches The Knight, the walls open a bit. Then Garpedes crawl down in pairs (except the 5th which crawls down solo), leaving The Knight just enough space to survive each wave. Zote is a traveller from outside Hallownest who came to the Kingdom to fulfill a promise. This is ultimately revealed to be a promise of glory for himself. He named his nail "Life Ender" because names supposedly have power. Unfortunately, because it is made of shellwood, it cannot deal damage. While he claims to be the strongest warrior in the land, he is found trapped by weak enemies or claiming the glory of another bug's deeds. He regards the Knight as beneath him and accuses them of constantly getting in his way. Kyembe glanced at Claygon, then gave Alex a grin dripping with malicious glee. “Simply say the word, my friend.” The other bad writing was in the dungeon fight at the start of this book. It was basically a cut and paste of previous fights. Our author simply replaced the names of the monsters and the fighting locations, but everything else was pretty much status quo. There was may be one or two new fighting techniques, but the rest was a rehash.Alex flew toward them, planning to take advantage of Ripp’s distraction…when a huge mana shift fanned out. Primal Aspids, in any situation, are a grave threat, so kill them as fast as possible, either using Great Slash, Dash Slash or Shade Soul upgraded by Shaman Stone.

After his parents died, Alex Roth had one desire: become a wizard. Through hard work, he was accepted into the University of Generasi, the world’s greatest academy of wizardry… Ellina is an expanded universe character who appears only within the Hollow Knight Wanderer's Journal- acting as the fictional author of the book. Her book details her experiences within the kingdom of Hallownest and acts as an outside source providing some unique reflections, accounts, and opinions on her findings. Ellina's character beyond her time spent in Hallownest is not explored and is unknown. I didn't give it a 5 star rating be ause the characters are poorly developed. They're all just super good at everything and everything just sort of works out despite minor danger. Actually, the more I think about it, the more this seems like a fantasy-themed slice of life than high fantasy adventure. Shaman Stone allows Shade Soul to kill many flying enemies (most notably Primal Aspids and Armoured Squits) in a single blast, allowing the Knight to deal with enemies from afar and not risk getting hit. This is especially useful during the section without any floor, as the SOUL can't be spent on healing anyway. The contents of the Wanderer's Journal include images and descriptions drawn and written by Ellina detailing a variety of enemies, characters, and environments. The main descriptions are typed out and are accompanied by Ellina's "quotes" - which are written out in a handwriting style font.Nor is Alex stagnant. My other favorite bit of the book is Alex's self-improvement plan. He's connected the dots on a few things after fighting the latest mana manipulation training device, and combined disciplines in a novel way. The weightlifting contests between him and the others are hilarious. Especially when Grimloch gets involved. It never happens. Instead, we get dumped in Hogwarts. That I kept reading is actually a testament to the quality of the writing because for me, magic school is an instant DNF. Oh, and don’t try that again. Stupid or not, bribery of a guard’ll get you ten lashes. Understand?” Paul shook his head. “The hell’s wrong with you?” He pointed up at one of the fountain’s statues rising over their heads. “Act the fool long enough and you’ll get the fool’s mark. That little sister of yours needs a brother she can rely on.”

There’s one small problem. The Mark insists on preventing the Fool from learning and casting spells, while enhancing skills outside of divinity, combat, and spellcraft…An instant later, Kaz-Mowang appeared where Alex had been. Golden lightning erupted all over the demon’s skin, as confusion marked his bloody face. Then Hannah’s power was with him, pushing against Kaz-Mowang’s with a vengeance that Alex could only describe as personal. With a torrent of energy like a bursting dam, it shattered both the demon’s will and his resistance to magic, flashing out to wrap around the massive form. Together with Grubsong the Weaverlings can generate a fair amount of SOUL. Even more so if a weak enemy is kept alive until the end of a wave and one allows the Weaverlings to hit it repeatedly. This combo can also help extract SOUL from the Garpede section mentioned above.
