The new ergonomics do have the potential to alienate those with larger hands or who don't enjoy the sideways slant, and the weight reduction has meant RGB likers like me would need to spend substantially more.

The G502 X does away with this completely, meaning one of the features that made Logitech’s best-selling mouse of all-time what it was, is completely absent. What’s cool about it though is that it’s magnetic and can be flipped depending on whether or not you want easy access to it. Despite this, the lighting is designed in such a way that your hand completely covers it when you're using the mouse, meaning that only a small sliver on the left-hand side is visible. That’s especially because its predecessor, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Wireless, is slightly cheaper and comes with removable weights. While the shape remains unchanged, the design has been altered very slightly, with the buttons being decluttered, and some of the skin contact grooves changed in an attempt to reduce dirt traps. With the incredible efficiency of LIGHTSPEED technology, G502 X PLUS also achieves up to 130 hours of battery life with RGB off and 37 hours when RGB is set to always on. It’s also worth noting that the mouse charges via an included USB-C cable, which has an adapter to allow you to plug it into your machine by USB-A or USB-C. This allows you to move it between computers while saving your configuration, and without you needing access to Logitech G-Hub on every device. While my initial qualm was that the lower profile shell meant my wrist was leaning on the desk a lot, my hand has now shifted around to the intended position. The wired version here is the evident choice for the sensible and frugal among us, and the wire actually doesn't create a detriment to the usability.

That said, the battery life isn’t really a feature if you have the RGBs on (you actually get less battery life with them than the Lightspeed would) and they’re barely visible when using the mouse.

Logitech has unveiled their G502 X range, featuring the G502 X Plus, G502 X Lightspeed and the wired G502 X models, but how do they compare to the previous G502 model? The Logitech G502 X Plus’ low-friction PTFE feet glide beautifully, even on the same leatherette pad that the Basilisk V3 Pro had a hard time with during its testing.

It's slightly skewed, similarly to those vertical mice that are all the rage at the moment in offices, which gives it superior ergonomics to the simple flat, front facing hand placement of the original design, without it taking an age to adjust. She can be found admiring AI advancements, scrambling for scintillating Raspberry Pi projects, preaching cybersecurity awareness, sighing over semiconductors, and gawping at the latest GPU upgrades. That also means that she has a lot more avenues to explore in terms of understanding how tech can improve the different aspects of our lives. Sadly, the Logitech G502 X Plus has not inherited the weight customizations that its predecessor is known for. While there's no change to the already improved G502 Hero 25k sensor, there are some impressive ergonomic enhancements to note, along with customisability, and weight improvements to boot.
